Man Gave Names to All the Animals
He saw an animal that liked to snort. Horns on his head and they weren’t too short. It looked like there wasn’t nothin’ that he couldn’t pull. “Ah, think I’ll call it a bull.” (more…)
Beverly Hills Country Club
In 1977, at the Beverly Hills Supper Club in Southgate, Kentucky, 165 people died in a tragic fire. Covered by news outlets across the country, many still associate tragedy with this popular entertainment destination. The club’s legacy, however, stretches back to the 1950s, when it was known as the Beverly Hills Country Club. Considered the finest nightclub in the Cincinnati area, Beverly Hills presented all of the day’s top entertainers: Liberace, Milton Berle, Carol Channing, Mel Torme, Jimmy Durante, Tony Bennett, and a galaxy of other world-famous headliners.
Written by local author Allen Singer and featuring photos taken by Earl W. Clark, who played saxophone in the Beverly Hills house band, this book reveals a host of those wonderful and diverse performers as they prepare backstage for their shows, chat with musicians, and strike poses for the camera.
Cincinnati’s Brewing History
Cincinnati has a long and illustrious brewing history. In the mid-19th century, the Queen City’s rapidly expanding German population transformed the industry, making Cincinnati one of the nation’s foremost brewing centers.
Based in the vibrant Over-the-Rhine district, the golden age of brewing in Cincinnati saw the creation of architecturally spectacular brewery structures and an abundance of saloons and beer gardens. Prohibition crippled this formerly booming industry and although local brewers returned to revive their trade following its repeal, the industry would never regain its former prominence. These days, Cincinnati’s brewing culture is experiencing a multifaceted renaissance with a promising outlook.
Cincinnati’s Brewing History offers an overview of the history of brewing and beer culture in the region through vintage and contemporary images, as well as brewing collectibles.
