Andrew Speno was born and went to college in Rhode Island. His formative years were spent in Ithaca, New York. He has been a teacher in the Cincinnati area for twenty-five years, formerly as a third and fourth teacher, now as a substitute for grades 1 to 12. He writes historical non-fiction, specializing in the life of the early 20th century. His first book, The Great American Foot Race, about the 1928 Bunion Derby ultra-marathon from Los Angeles to New York, was released in 2017 by Calkins Creek. He is now at work on a history of WWI nurses.
