Jinny Berten was born in Kansa City, Mo but has spent most of her life in Cincinnati. She is a graduate of Summit Country Day School and Xavier University.

She taught history and government for many years at St. Ursula Academy and was the Director of the Friends of the Washington Commission for the Humanities. She has volunteered in many areas including the Legal Aid Society, Boards of various schools and civic projects.

She has authored three children's books: Littsie of Cincinnati(winner of an IPPY award in the Best Regional Category), Jake and Sam at the Empty Abbey and the Empty Abbey(silver medal MoonBeam Award) and the new Littsie and the Underground Railroad, a sequel to the first Littsie.

Jinny is the mother of four and grandmother of four.
