The region’s biggest and best book festival, Books by the Banks Cincinnati Regional Book Festival, is excited to announce the unveiling of this year’s commemorative poster. Designed by award-winning local artist Courttney Cooper, the poster features notable local landmarks and iconic imagery of Cincinnati.
Cooper’s artwork, created exclusively for the festival, will be revealed at a special event set for Thursday, September 13 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Visionaries + Voices’ Visionarium at 3054 Madison Road in Oakley. It is free and open to the public.
Cooper’s intensely detailed maps of the city and his colorful renderings of local landmarks and traditions have earned him a reputation as an innovator who uses everyday materials (such as a Bic pen and repurposed paper) to create unique images. Buildings, streets, and conversations are all recorded from memory. His work has been described as capturing “a sublime moment in time where viewers are able to briefly understand something as complex as a city.”
For its inaugural year in 2006, festival organizers commissioned beloved local children’s book author and illustrator Will Hillenbrand to design the event’s first commemorative poster. Since then, the announcement of the Books by the Banks poster artist and unveiling of the artwork has become a popular tradition and many festival goers collect all the posters.
The 12thannual Books by the Banks Cincinnati Regional Book Festival is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 at Duke Energy Convention Center, 525 Elm St., Cincinnati, OH 45202.
