John E. Hancock

John E. Hancock taught architectural history at the University of Cincinnati for four decades, planning and leading many cultural heritage tours (both actual and virtual) in Ohio and across Europe. After many years creating public education media projects about Ohio’s Indigenous earthworks, he served as the principal author and photographer for the successful Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks UNESCO World Heritage nomination (2023). In April 2026, he published both an expanded re-edition of that work (from Smithsonian Books), and the Traveler’s Guide to Ancient Ohio (from Ohio University Press).
