Rick Pender has been an award-winning theater critic since 1986, writing regularly about plays and musicals in Greater Cincinnati for Cincinnati CityBeat since 1994. From 2004 to 2016 he edited The Sondheim Review. In 2021 he published The Stephen Sondheim Encyclopedia. He is a past chair of the American Theatre Critics Association.
